Uganda, Home to the largest refugee settlement in the world!
Today Uganda finds itself at the centre of a catastrophic refugee crisis where Bidibidi is now the largest refugee settlement in the world. The United Nations refugee agency, UNHCR, reports that over 1.8 million people have fled South Sudan to bordering countries. Just under 900,000 refugees have fled South Sudan into Uganda and almost 300,000 are in Bidibidi camp alone. They are leaving behind deserted towns and villages, as conflict and famine continue to plague the world’s newest country.
Fields of Life need your support to enable these traumatised people to receive much-needed safe, clean drinking water and emergency provisions.
Fields of Life is supporting these desperate people, in the Yumbe and Adjumani districts, through its partners on the ground. We are in the process of completing the drilling of an initial ten borehole wells in Yumbe, and in Bidibidi. We are also providing non-food items in Pagirinya camp in Adjumani district, where numbers continue to grow.
In September 2017, broadcast journalist Jordan Moates visited Uganda to see first-hand what life is like in these refugee settlements. Click on the links below to read the reports from the field…
