Okongo Well is located in the Lira District in the Northern part of Uganda. Lira was one of the worst affected areas after the 20 year conflict in which a rebel group, The Lord’s Resistance Army terrorised communities.
Prior to the drilling of the borehole the community had to walk long distances to collect water which was often contaminated with many diseases and led to sickness and death. This borehole has been very timely for the community
This borehole will benefit 184 households each with an average of 9 members per household, therefore bringing clean water to over 1,600 people.
Thank you to S. Shepherd and S. Dickson Charitable Fund for funding the Okongo Well.
