It is the start of another school year in East Africa, and we are so excited to be able to share some of the amazing stories and projects that you have supported over the past year. Here are just three stories of hope and transformation to encourage and inspire you!

Phionah’s Sewing Journey

Vocational training is a popular option for many young people in East Africa, as it enables them to gain practical skills that can be used to support themselves and their families.

Phionah has been sponsored since primary school, and after completing secondary school, she joined a technical college to follow her passion for tailoring and design.

When I was young, my aunt used to make me dresses. Growing up, my dream was to become a star fashion designer like her.

Phionah was able to save to start up a small tailoring business which she runs alongside her studies. As one of 12 children in her family, her profits are now paying for the school fees of 5 of her siblings! She has started a club with her tailoring classmates to support the young mothers in her class.

“I am so grateful to my sponsor for the sacrifice of keeping me in school since I was young. Now, I am so excited that I can learn skills where my passions are.

School Feeding Programmes

To drive sustainable change, the sponsorship programme also supports partner schools to ensure a safe and quality learning environment for every child. This maximises the impact on each child, their family and the whole community.

Feeding programmes play a big role
in school life at our partner schools.
These projects help schools to grow
their own food, which can be used to
provide meals for pupils or generate
income. When students are well-fed,
they concentrate better in class and
attendance improves!

“Thank you for my school fees and my school lunch. I am happy.”

– Ronald, Primary 1 at Namutumba PS

Fun with Science

To create the best learning environment possible for all students, teachers need to be well-trained and schools properly equipped. Thanks to your support, a number of partner primary schools have
received new science kits, giving students the opportunity to experience fun
and hands-on learning!

“Thank you for giving a science kit to our school which has made the learning of science real and interesting.”

– Catherine, Primary 7 at Garden Care PS

We are so grateful to all who support the sponsorship programme for the big difference the Fields of Life family is making to the lives of so many children across East Africa.
